Vonn underwent a surgical implant installed in her right knee throughout her break from the sport.

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in an excellent position" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following securing a podium spot for the fourth time in five World Cup competitions.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, took the bronze position in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup podium finish.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn finished the course in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the initial jump," Vonn said. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm happy with my skiing today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also finished third in the downhill race on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of ongoing knee problems. However, she returned to racing in late 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are scheduled for February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She has one gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the next Olympics.

"When we get to Cortina, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the overall downhill standings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup circuit includes a nine more events scheduled before the season finals in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
