The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing personal histories for key figures such as the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and the video site.
