Police have published concerning video showing a driver executing risky skidding techniques on a roundabout during an illegal vehicle gathering, placing watching crowds at serious danger of harm.
A 23-year-old from the local area was given a jail term of 27 weeks, deferred for 12 months, after admitting to reckless operation of a vehicle.
Additionally, the judge issued a 12-month driving ban and ordered community service along with a behavioral course.
As stated by police officials, the recording was filmed at an unauthorized car meet in Portsmouth on 28 December 2024, showing the driver driving a distinctive colored vehicle.
“This footage demonstrates the shocking moment when a dangerous motorist drifted on a traffic circle at an illegal vehicle event, while crowds watched despite the danger of severe harm.”
Police representatives reported that over 200 offences involving illegal car meets in the area have been handled in just over a year.
Notable figures from the enforcement effort comprise:
A police sergeant commented: “Residents, drivers and our traffic officers have had their fill with these groups of drivers selfishly taking over streets and car parks and we will not tolerate it.”
He added: “They are not only a complete nuisance, but they also put participants and innocent bystanders at risk of serious injury.”
He finished: “We will continue to prosecute these individuals and I trust these recent cases act as a warning: you will face consequences.”
