R360 Competition Players Subject to 10-Season Suspension from National Rugby League

The athlete earned 20 test matches for the All Blacks before switching loyalty to Samoa.

Rugby league's authority has stated that participants who join the “counterfeit” R360 will be prohibited for 10 years.

The proposed competition, scheduled to begin in October 2026, is seeking to lure players from union and league with hefty contracts and a condensed playing schedule.

Top NRL stars have reportedly been approached by the breakaway group, which will include multiple men's clubs and women's teams located in large metropolitan areas around the world.

Representing Samoa the player, who is with his NRL club in the NRL, has said he has had discussions with the new organization.

Papenhuyzen, Zac Lomax, Haas and Jye Gray are also believed to be thinking about signing the rebel league.

A group of rugby union teams, including Australia, last week imposed a ban on athletes signing with R360 participating in global fixtures.

“We've listened to our teams and we've taken firm action,” stated the league's chief V'Landys.

“Sadly, there will continually be organizations that try to exploit our code for potential financial gain.

“They avoid funding in pathways or the advancement of athletes. They simply exploit the hard work of existing bodies, putting players at risk of monetary damage while benefiting financially.

“They are, in reality, imitating the sport.”

R360 is launched by former England World Cup winner Mike Tindall and backed by commercial backers.

After the potential union prohibitions were revealed recently, it said: “We aim to collaborate collaboratively as a component of the global rugby calendar.

“The series is arranged with bespoke schedules for male and female sides and R360 will release all players for test matches, as included in their agreements.”

The new league will apply for endorsement for its initiatives from the international authority, union's administrative organization, at its official gathering next year.
