New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities issued video stills Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
