In excess of 36,000 civilians have evacuated from Sudan's Kordofan area east of Darfur starting Saturday, according to the UN's migration agency.
The important central zone connecting the country's Darfur regions and the capital region has during recent weeks become the newest conflict zone in the extended civil war between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary group.
An estimated 36,825 people escaped five districts in North Kordofan province between 26 October and 31 October, per data from the International Organization for Migration.
The individuals, most on foot, headed to Tawila, a town western side of El Fasher that is currently housing more than 652,000 refugees.
Local inhabitants of North Kordofan on Monday reported a heavy surge in both RSF and army deployment across communities throughout the state.
Both military groups are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan state capital and a important strategic and command base that joins Darfur to Khartoum.
"Today, all our forces have assembled at the Bara front here," commented an RSF member in a recently circulated video message.
A local inhabitant of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the quantity of RSF vehicles had grown considerably since the group's capture of El Fasher.
"We discontinued traveling to our farms, afraid of confrontations," the resident stated.
Another civilian, who requested anonymity for protection purposes, also confirmed that "there has been a significant rise in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the last fourteen days.
A senior UN official raised the alarm last week about "extensive crimes" and "ethnic-based retaliations" by RSF in Bara.
The representative cautioned about patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF fighters have been charged with mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against non-Arab ethnic groups.
The spiritual head on Sunday appealed for an immediate ceasefire and the opening of aid passageways in Sudan, saying that attacks on civilians and impediments to humanitarian aid "are causing unacceptable suffering."
Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of committing war crimes in El Fasher and announced that the Sudanese government would not discuss with the armed faction.
The representative further encouraged the international community to designate the group as a terrorist entity.
