Previously unknown musical pieces by the musical genius Bach have been unveiled and performed in the European nation for the premiere performance in three hundred twenty years.
The country's Minister of Culture the government representative described the unearthing of the pair of works a "important event for the musical community".
They originally drew interest of a musical scholar in 1992 when he was documenting Bach manuscripts at the Brussels archive.
The organ works - the D minor Chaconne and G minor composition - were without dates and unsigned. The researcher spent the subsequent thirty years working to confirm the identity of the pieces.
They were performed at the Thomas Church in Leipzig, where the composer is buried and where he served as a cantor for over two decades.
The two pieces were played by organist from the Netherlands Ton Koopman, who said he was proud to be able to play them for the first time in 320 years.
He said the compositions were "remarkably sophisticated" and would be "a valuable resource for modern musicians, as they are also well-suited for reduced-scale organs".
They are thought to have been composed during Bach's formative years, when he was working as an music instructor in the municipality of the Thuringian town in the German region.
The scholar, who is now the director of the Bach research center in the city, said they demonstrated several features distinctive to the musical genius.
"Musically, the pieces also include elements that can be identified in Bach's works from that era, but not in those of other musicians," he said.
They are thought to have been recorded in 1705 by a student of Bach, the musical student.
At a unveiling of the pieces, the researcher said he was "99.99% sure that Bach had written the two compositions" and they have now been included into the authoritative listing of his compositions.
