JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original movie. Rather, the latest cinematic release from the JuJutsu Kaisen supernatural series serves as a collection of the anime's second season combined with the first two episodes of its upcoming season, which begins the Culling Games arc from the source material. This establishes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the quickest way to watch the start of the forthcoming season ahead of its January 2026 premiere. The movie premieres in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.
In the Culling Games plot, Elite sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu finally joins the anime series and is assigned by jujutsu higher-ups to eliminate his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their long-awaited clash occurs for the first time on the big screen, and if the animators at the production house have a treat as installments 40 and 41 waiting in the wings for fans this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may end up being the present that everyone has hoped for.
"The Thunderclap sequence" from season 2 is frequently praised as a top-tier scene in animated series lore, despite the major issues in the previous year when the episodes first debuted. It was claimed that the artists were facing tight schedules to the point, and the final version that premiered at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the artists originally planned.
The sequence showcases a much-hyped confrontation between two elite magic wielders, Sukuna versus Mahoraga. It boasts experimental animation, excellent direction, and dynamic fight choreography. A later home video edition gave the animators a chance to insert new moments to flesh out the fight. So it appeared likely Execution could refine the sequence additionally. However, viewing the latest preview, it's unclear if that fight has received any additional treatment. It'd be a shame if it was not, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the biggest screen with the finest quality available.
The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen boosted the show to become 2024's anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were premiered one after another, it was the focus of attention for multiple weeks in the anime community. Fans had heard of the problems with the production, which made them admire what they witnessed even more. People anxiously checked to see if the disc version, made available on March 18, would include new footage to the fight or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were thrilled to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and different color grading.
But the home video can only refine what has initially broadcast in the original airing, whereas the cinematic experience has the potential to properly present the moment with further changes and completely new animated sequences.
As it stands, these two episodes serve as the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the studio, particularly given the controversy they encountered at the time. It's garnered the attention of anime fans all over the planet, and the Culling Games is one of the most anticipated anime arcs of next year. If Mappa wants to kick off the year perfectly, revisit the series' best moment once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've seen yet.
