People have assembled across the country to commemorate the second anniversary since the Hamas-led offensive on October 7th, 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw more than 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most fatal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our aggressive opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," the leader remarked on Tuesday.

He also promised to "achieve all the goals of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will not create a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official remembrance events until mid-October - after the conclusion of the festive season - but events still were held around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the families of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' delegations gathered in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the proposal.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an evening round of mediated discussions started at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source explained the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, because of differences over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the agreement.

He commented that the negotiations are "tough and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are striving to reduce the differences between the both parties.

Essential Matters in Talks

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies distribution
  • After-conflict management of the territory

Public Reaction

In Tel Aviv's public square earlier, young Hagar - whose family member endured the assault on the gathering, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - shared: "Nowhere appears as home anymore and until every captive return not a single person will be secure."

"After we see everyone home returned, we can breathe once more. Then we can commence rebuild," she continued.

Near the prime minister's home in the capital, people congregated to express their backing for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel says nearly fifty continue in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be surviving.

Demonstrator a participant stated: "We must do whatever arrangement required for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of Israelis desire the hostilities to conclude in return for the liberation of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the site of Nova festival, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From that location, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people reported the intense Israeli attacks continued.

In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the morning of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, area and Nasr areas and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the northwest.

"As the dusk arrives, the dread appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli air strike last year, explained.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are resting together, embracing, notably my smallest child who rests his head on me all night."

"Continuously we look at the reports to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Emergency

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including several who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part area.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area said additional fatalities had been brought there. One of them was killed by Israeli forces while seeking help to the south region, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry reported a significant number of the {territ
